Stuttering can be a frustrating and isolating experience, especially for teenagers navigating school, friendships, and everyday conversations. Many feel like their words are trapped, leading them to avoid speaking situations altogether. But what if stuttering didn’t have to hold you back?

Adam, a 16-year-old high school student, knows this struggle all too well. Before joining the Let’s Talk Fluency Program, developed by Lori Melnitsky, he felt anxious about speaking in class, ordering food at restaurants, and even talking with friends. The fear of stuttering often stopped him from raising his hand, making new connections, and fully expressing himself.

Breaking Through the Fear

When Adam first started the program virtually, he wasn’t sure what to expect. Like many who stutter, he had tried different techniques before but often felt discouraged when progress didn’t come right away. But something about Lori’s approach felt different.

"Lori understood exactly what I was going through," Adam shared. "She didn’t just focus on how I spoke—she helped me change how I felt about speaking. For the first time, I felt like I had someone who truly believed in me. Lori stuttered severely herself and this was a game changer for me."

Through individualized coaching, practical fluency techniques, and mindset shifts, Adam began to see changes. He learned strategies to manage his stuttering in real-life situations and gained the confidence to speak up, even when he wasn’t perfectly fluent.

Finding His Voice

One of the biggest milestones for Adam came when he voluntarily raised his hand in class—a moment that once felt impossible.

"I used to sit in class, knowing the answer but being too afraid to speak. Now, I don’t let fear stop me. Even if I stutter, I know my voice matters," he said.

Beyond the classroom, Adam also found himself engaging more in social settings, ordering food with confidence, and even advocating for himself when needed. The tools he gained in the Let’s Talk Fluency Program gave him more than just fluency—they gave him the freedom to communicate without fear.

A Program That Transforms Lives

Adam’s story is just one example of how Let’s Talk Fluency empowers teens and young adults who stutter. Developed by stuttering specialist Lori Melnitsky, the program goes beyond traditional fluency techniques, helping participants build confidence, resilience, and communication skills for real-world success.

If you or someone you know is struggling with stuttering, know that there is hope. Fluency is more than just smooth speech—it’s about feeling empowered to express yourself, no matter what.
