Why are children who stutter being told to breath?

Lori Melnitsky

This is a pet peeve of mine. Why are young kids being told to breathe? Adults can barely coordinate this process and it is almost impossible to use in conversational speech. I can understand easy starts and stretching but not breathing. If your child is being taught this it can often increase stuttering. Please visit www.allislandspeech.com for more help.
